Why does my computer only show a default image when previewing my jpeg images?

Whenever i wnat to preview a picture on my photo gallery it shows thumbnail images of a default image, not the picture i would want to look at. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense it's the best i can do. I hope someone can help!!! Thank You
