Dog run help..........?

So we are making a dog run in the backyard. It is a pretty good size (350 sq ft). Most of it is going to be gr but we are training him (as he is just a young puppy) to go to the bathroom in one area. Our question is what should we put in his potty area? mulch? pebbles? Thanks
